Opening Remarks from Meet the Teachers Night

Good Evening! I want to begin by thanking each and every one of you for giving me and my amazing faculty and staff the honor and privilege to educate your children. I know you have other educational choices and we are both grateful and honored to be able to watch your children grow, physically, emotionally, spiritually and academically.  I also want to thank Father Bob for his continued support of our school. We are truly blessed to have such a dedicated and student centered Pastor here at our School.
This year our theme is “We are Active Disciples of Jesus”. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we teach our children not only what they need to know, but also how they need to act in word and deed. Over the past several years there has been an increase in the amount of prejudice that is present throughout the country. Our educational system has not been spared. Immaculate Conception School is placing a focus on character building this year to tie into our theme of active discipleship.  In fact, the entire Diocese of Buffalo is preparing for a diocese wide convocation titled “All are Welcome”. I am asking you to help us to educate the children on tolerance, diversity and social acceptance as we work through the year as active disciples.
There are yet again some new and exciting changes occurring at the school. We have several advances in technology that have already occurred or that are occurring including the addition of another dozen student chrome books, a laptop charging cart in the hallway full of mobile devices for student use, the upgrading or our technology lab to a google platform complete with its own separate wifi network, and the addition Macs to the library and to several classrooms as learning centers.
In addition, there are now high definition security cameras installed in several areas of the school including the cafeteria and gymnasium, the building entrances and all parking lots to aid in building safety and security. A buzzer is also now added so that coaches are able to easily allow parents access to any child staying after for sports practices.
I am working with Jeff and some generous parish volunteers to install daylight LED bulbs in the gymnasium to replace the yellowing CFLs currently installed.
These improvements just scratch the surface of the many initiatives that are in the works for this year.
In an effort to further increase communication and to keep parents updated as to what is going on at the school from time, I have created a Principal’s Blog this year. I will do my best to try to post to this blog regularly.
On the subject of communication, I would like to once again remind parents that ALL visitors must stop in the office before going to see teachers. Appointments with teachers can be made in the office or via an email sent to the teachers. Please respect the fact that the teachers would like to be prepared to address your concerns prior to meeting. I truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation regarding this. The faculty and staff of the school view you, the parents, as partners in the education of your children. We know we cannot do this alone and are grateful for all the support you offer at home to help the children of Immaculate Conception School to grow and succeed. May God bless you and your children as we enjoy another year together and grow and learn as a community of faith and academics.

I am happy to announce that our highly skilled and veteran staff of teachers is once again returning for the 2017-18 academic year.

Welcoming Prayer Service

I am enjoying hearing all of the stories from your children’s adventures over the summer. I am grateful that they had the chance to experience such wonderful things. Today we welcomed our new students to the Immaculate Conception School Community with a prayer service in the Church.  It was a very nice opportunity for us to gather as a school community and to welcome each other back while also welcoming in those new to the school.  Sister Judy spoke about the theme for this school year, ”We Are Active Disciples of Jesus”. You will be hearing your children speak a lot about this in the coming months. Please use that as an opportunity to engage in family discussions about how to serve others.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Meet the Teacher Night prior to the mandatory parent Home School Meeting. Please note also that there is an Uniform Exchange/Sale occurring that night as well.
